Inspiring the next generation of graphic designers

As part of an ongoing partnership with Leeds Beckett University our creative director, Matt Lamont has been delivering a range of inspirational workshops using his world-renowned archive of graphic design history.

Matt spoke to over fifty Graphic Design undergraduates about the archive and his passion for design history, after which the students had full access to items in the collection and participated in discourse amongst their peers and lecturers. As part of their critical studies unit, the students will be producing essays and content related to the impact, history and aesthetics of selected artefacts.

Our studio at Assembly Bradford houses over 4,000 artefacts from around the world with items spanning over a century of design history. The collection has been collected for over a decade and remains an important resource for our studio practice.

Digital access to a selected range of the design archive can be viewed at www.designreviewed.com and further workshops and lectures are planned throughout the year. Education and the preservation of design history are important values for Out of Place and by using the archive to educate students, we hope to inspire the next generation of designers.
