Heart Research UK

Simplifying content, improving journeys, and maximising engagement.

Client

Heart Research UK is a national charity dedicated to the prevention, treatment, and cure of heart diseases. Their work spans medical research, professional education, community outreach, and public awareness campaigns. As a small team delivering large-scale impact, HRUK required a digital platform that reflected the full breadth of their work while enabling growth in public engagement and fundraising.

Their legacy website, built in-house and maintained with limited external support, no longer met their needs—particularly in usability, performance, and accessibility. HRUK identified the opportunity to overhaul their website to better reflect their evolving brand, enhance user experience, and ultimately strengthen their ability to save lives through digital engagement.

Requirements

The goal was to deliver a fully redesigned, future-proofed website that would:

  • Reflect their updated brand identity and sharpen fundraising focus.

  • Offer an intuitive and accessible experience for a broad user base—including medical professionals, donors, corporate partners, and the general public.

  • Allow seamless integration with third-party tools such as Beacon CRM, Fundraise Up, Formstack, and Shopify.

  • Support mobile-first design and modern SEO practices.

  • Enable HRUK’s lean in-house team to manage and scale content easily post-launch.

  • Be hosted and maintained by a digital partner with full technical and creative capability.

  • Facilitate ongoing A/B testing (MVT) and optimization based on audience needs and campaign goals.

A key consideration was ensuring that every department—from research and grants to education and marketing—felt their goals were represented in the final site structure and content.

Delivery

We began with an extensive discovery phase, engaging multiple departments and audience groups through workshops, interviews, and content analysis. This ensured the new website would not only meet technical and functional needs but also reflect the diverse goals across HRUK’s research, fundraising, education, and community support teams.

Working closely with HRUK’s marketing team, we:

  • Redesigned the site architecture to improve navigation, accessibility, and content discovery, ensuring alignment with evolving brand guidelines.

  • Selected and customized WordPress as the CMS, creating flexible templates that are easy for the team to manage while maintaining brand consistency.

  • Streamlined and rewrote key content, reducing clutter and sharpening the charity’s fundraising and awareness messaging.

  • Integrated third-party platforms including Fundraise Up, Beacon CRM, Shopify, and Formstack, delivering a seamless user experience across donation, engagement, and ecommerce pathways.

  • Implemented SEO best practices and MVT capabilities, enabling ongoing testing and performance optimization.

Post-launch, we continue to host and manage the site, providing technical support, updates, and strategic input as HRUK’s digital partner.
