Born in Bradford is one of the world’s largest longitudinal child health studies, run by Bradford Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. We designed and built their main website, and have since delivered two further connected microsites as the programme’s digital needs have grown.

A website built for a study that never stops growing
Born in Bradford has followed thousands of families since 2007, generating decades of research into child health, development and the factors that shape young lives. By the time the programme came to us in late 2024, the existing website no longer reflected the scale or sophistication of the research it represented.
We worked closely with the Born in Bradford team through several rounds of design, refining the homepage and key page templates based on direct feedback at every stage. The site needed to serve genuinely different audiences: academic and clinical researchers looking for publications and data, families who had taken part in the study wanting to understand its findings, and policymakers and funders assessing its impact. We built a custom WordPress site with bespoke content types and taxonomies to manage research themes, publications and project structures clearly, giving the Born in Bradford team a CMS they could manage confidently without needing a developer for routine updates. The site went live in December 2024.

From one site to three
Almost as soon as the main site launched, new needs emerged. The JU:MP programme, a part of Born in Bradford focused on physical activity and movement, needed its own dedicated space to share learning and resources with practitioners and partner organisations. We designed and built the JU:MP Sharing the Learning microsite as a connected but distinct platform, launched in spring 2025.
Later in 2025, the team came back wanting an interactive toolkit added to the main site, a resource allowing visitors to explore data and findings more dynamically. After reviewing the options together, we recommended building it as a standalone microsite rather than retrofitting it into the existing site, giving it room to grow on its own terms. We continue to provide ongoing hosting and support across all three platforms, working directly with the Born in Bradford team as new needs arise.
