We work with charities and third sector organisations at every stage of their development, from newly formed organisations finding their identity, to established national bodies navigating significant change.

Most of our charity clients come to us not for a one-off project but for an ongoing relationship: a studio that understands how they work, what they’re accountable for, and what they’re trying to achieve. We understand the environment. Stretched teams, board and trustee sign-off processes, funder requirements, GDPR obligations around sensitive data, and the particular pressure of having to communicate complex work clearly and accessible to multiple audiences at once.

The challenges we understand

Small teams with big remits

Most charity clients we work with don’t have large marketing or digital departments. Often it’s one person, or part of someone’s role, managing a relationship with us alongside everything else they do. We work with that reality, staying organised, communicating clearly, and making sure our clients never feel out of their depth in a process they’re paying for.

Governance and sign-off

Charity projects frequently involve trustees, boards, senior leadership and multiple internal stakeholders in the approval process. We build that into how we work, with structured feedback stages, clear documentation, and the patience to support decision-making processes that move at an organisational pace rather than an agency one.

Accountability to funders

We understand that grant funding is often ring-fenced, time-limited and tied to specific outcomes. We scope carefully, manage budgets transparently and make sure the work stays aligned with the objectives that secured the funding in the first place.

Sensitive data and GDPR

A number of our clients work with vulnerable groups, sensitive health data and personal information subject to strict GDPR obligations. We have direct experience of building and managing digital systems within these frameworks,  including for NHS-connected organisations, and we treat data protection requirements as a technical and ethical baseline, not an afterthought.

Communicating complexity clearly

The organisations we work with typically need to communicate complex content including research findings, policy positions, service impact and fundraising appeals to audiences with very different needs and levels of familiarity. Getting that structure right and making it accessible without oversimplifying, is a significant part of what we do.

Who we work with

We have worked with charities across health, social care, environment, disability, community and the voluntary sector. Clients include Foundations, Heart Research UK, Children’s Heart Surgery Fund, Tackle Prostate Cancer, ChemTrust, Volunteer Scotland and QEF. The work spans brand, web, publications, campaigns and ongoing support, often several of these for the same organisation over time.

Working with the Out Of Place team on our Bradford Live World Cup screening campaign was brilliant from start to finish. They produced creative, eye-catching designs that really nailed the brief, bringing the campaign to life. Their ability to respond quickly and support us at short notice was invaluable, and they remained committed throughout, helping us successfully deliver this large and complex project. Thank you OOP, I hope to work with you again soon.

We worked with the team at Out of Place Studio on the development of both our new website and brand refresh projects. They have been really great to work with. Excellent technical knowledge and the team have been able to answer / resolve all queries, nothing has been too much trouble.

The brand refresh was predominantly digitally focused as it was driven by the website and it has given the charity a much more contemporary digital presence. The brand structure and new creative assets highlight the difference services QEF provide, whilst also unifying them under one umbrella brand.

We have been very pleased with the partnership with Out Of Place Studio.
